- Amanat Dari Novel Edensor Karya Andrea Hirata

I've been mesmerised by reading Andrea's Laskar Pelangi 8 years ago. Since then, never missed to read any of his books.
I may now declare that Andrea is my favourite fiction author, and this book of his, Ayah did not fail to deliver his literary magic with words.
Andrea is the few author to make any common life of a town folk in a deserted island to be heroic in the most entertaining way possible.
we learn to love and falling in love no matter what and how by this beautifully written story. fascinating and sweet.

Having good laugh on some pages and goosebumps on the last pages.
Sabari is the man who literally has incredible level of patience throughout his life that sometimes I wonder if a man like him truly exists. But then his patience towards Marlena is what empowers this book. Marlena as someone who's quite annoying throughout the book however turned out as the one who makes us love her character in the end. And in my opinion, Zorro/Amiru, Sabari's son in the end of the book has inspired me or maybe e...more

I put high expectation on Hirata and this book as what he did give me for Rainbow Troops. For me, personally, the plot is way too long and going round and round - not a page turner at all. It got me so bored that I had to gave myself a little push to finish it. But for you who wants a light and a non-pressure sort of book, this might be for you.
This book was pretty awesome. Story about the man and his love. And teached me, how love can be 'a strong power' in poor condition and poor live. It will give big support for father or in Bahasa Indonesia we called 'Ayah', like as this book's title, Ayah do something more than his power just becouse he has love, big love to his son and his woman.

This book has reminded me a lot about many things, esepecially about my Father. This book also has influenced me in many ways. A truly endearing story. Recommended for everyone who wants to know about the beauty of a Father's love.
It's been ages not to read his masterpiece... but damn I still enjoy every bit of the story. Laughing out loud then bursting in tears in seconds. Fall in hate then fall in love with a character *I don't wanna mention the name*. I hate Andrea Hirata! X'(

i've never seen this kind of love story. sabari taught me how love should be sincere without expecting any reward Andrea Hirata
What fascinate me the most is the chosen words. The language still the same, Indonesia, but the depiction of silly, blunt, mesmerizing words that really hit me in the sweet spot but like a truck. This melodramatic overbearing fictional father scars me and shame me for how I really am, deep inside. The way the comedic timing just diabolical and effective in delivering a slice of life of humble story without trying too hard. A cesspool maelstrom of love from sabari toward his crush just ... heartb...more

this is my favorite book from Andrea Hirata's work (even though i haven't read all of his work).
it is very-very simple and naive, it slaps us effortlessly.
a humanistic story about a simple love from a loving father.
had a really-really good time reading it,
will definitely read it again in the future.

For me this book is so heartwarming. I don't know that someone could love someone else that much. Not only the main character, but also the other character such as the son, the best friend, and so on.

This book has given me a clear feeling of love and loving. I like Andrea's writing, it seems like he's got that Rainbow-Troops-vibe all over again: making (an actually) sad story into series of sentences which makes can't help but smile when reading.
Outstanding, heart-warming, touching stories about a love of a father and importance of family. The storyline could get you lost but i think that's where the fun is! Why? Cause it got the readers to bear in mind what happened in the previous chapters and connects it with the currently read chapter.
I dont know how to discribe this book.
awesome.
emotionally
you cant imagine the end of story till you read it
in this book, Andrea Hirata wrote some different stories, but at eventually the stories become one ending.
great job!

Wonderfully pathetic, sad and touching at the same time. Been hooked since the first page, dunno why I didn’t read it right after i bought it. One thing for sure, Andrea hasn’t lost his magic in writing something like this.
Andrea Hirata always makes a reader like me feel grateful. Because the character in the story he told was simple, kind, a fighter to his/her life.

Nice book
Apapun judul buku yang menggunakan kata 'Ayah' pasti akan selalu mendapat nilai tambah dari saya. Termasuk buku ini. My favorit word and one of my favorite writer, could not ask for more!

It is funny story about a (young) man
My best part was when the young boy tried to help his love by changing small note before having math exam.
It's a great book in my opinion, combining poetry with a story of loss. How life goes on, how love goes on.
So charming....

Selamat Hari Ayah Nasional! #telat
Sebenarnya saya sudah membaca buku ini sejak kemarin, tapi karena ada insiden 'the moment when you read a line that is so beautiful, you just close the book and stare at the wall for a minute' yang terjadi berkali-kali selama saya membaca buku ini, ditambah dengan ceritanya yang masuk kategori 'sangat mengharukan' dalam standar saya yang artinya, ... errrr ... (silakan disimpulkan sendiri),

Andrea is one of my favorite Indonesian authors but to be honest, 'Ayah' is my first read after his 'Rainbow Troops' tetralogy. So I tend to compare this one with his tetralogy (although among the four books, I have my own favorite).
As usual, Andrea is very rich and knowledgeable when it comes to words, dictions and poems. This makes a simple reader like me experiences the beauty of Bahasa Indonesia the most. The plot is beautiful and the main character, Sabari, is probably an individual whose...more
For me, this is one of the most inspiring books I've ever seen.
I love the Bahasa, I love the main character Andrea used for (re: Sabari), I love the time...place...conflict..feelings.. everything was amazing!
Andrea told that love could be the most powerful weapon for us, to fight our hard situation (or hardest maybe). Love awaken other people dreams, reason to life, giant inside them.. What a great effects!
Actually, Ayah (we called 'Father') whatever he is, old or young, as success as Obama or n...more

'You know someone is special to you when you're literally captivated by them in even the little moments. The slightest thing they say or do, is like watching the universe unfold. And nothing else matters in those moments.'
As usual, Andrea always makes the reader cry, laugh and deep thought in the same time.
Ayah is beyond my expectation about a love that man can gave. With all of his limitation, Sabari push his limits to give the best both for his love marlena and a child named zorro.
Andrea told us, that ayah is not about biological relationship, it is about a love that man can gave. Although, zorro is not Sabari's biological child, but andrea create a 'ayah' in Sabari for zorro in perfect way. I personally, real...more

I recognised Pak Andrea Hirata through his popular novel, Laskar Pelangi. However, I found Laskar Pelangi is too detail and a bit boring (I read only up until page 150), maybe due to Indonesian Language.
'Ayah' is different. The Indonesian Language is understandable and its the story I wanted to read the most.
I love the 'Awan' poetry because it recalls my memories with my late Abah.
Congrats Pak Andrea this novel is very impressive and who knows one day I will visit Belatik, admiring love story of...more

Karya yang hebat. Narasi yang anggun.
Baca sekali pertamanya untuk Ayahmu
Baca sekali lagi untuk Ibumu.
If I can talk to my father, I would ask him to read this book and feel how a man faced hardship being cheated and left by his wife, his only son being taken away from him for 8 years.
I almost cry when the turtle delivered the message and the two families, Sabari with Zorro and Wuruningas from NT Australia met each other. To God, I love you.
