The Abyss is sometimes referred to as the netherworld. The map of the Abyss was the first concept of the series drawn by Akihito Tsukushi, and he was inspired by role-playing games like Wizardry that he used to play as a kid. citation needed All throughout the Abyss, delvers report findings of human remnants from civilizations past.

'Determined to wield the lost Ring of Power Manthríf once more, King Váskmun Greytooth has led his Firehorn dwarves into the Abyss of Mordath, where the sunken foundations of Barad-dûr now rest. Meanwhile, the Order of the Eye has made haste to pursue the Firehorns, eager to avenge their fallen and contest the dwarves' claim to the greatest artifacts of the Dark Lord. Unbeknownst to any of them, greater still are the terrors Sauron hid away in the shadows of the Mordath....'

Description

The Abyss of Mordath is a level 115 12-man raid in Mordor. Players must have completed the hidden deed Discovery: The Abyss of Mordath in order to enter. There are two ways to trigger this deed:

• Run through the end of the solo quest Instance: Into the Abyss (fastest way)
• Run all the way through Barad-dûr to the end

The raid was added to the game on December 14th, 2017, with Update 21.3.1 (see the Talk page for beta comments).
